I made this little guy for the March 2019 LoopDeLoop in collaboration with Bonney Florence. It proved a challenge - we knew we wanted to make something but had a limited time (we made this over the weekend right before the deadline). Since it was going to be embroidered we decided to stick to no more than 16 frames, and use simple and graphic shapes.
First I built a scene and camera with 3D shapes in After Effects, then I drew over them to create the refine the shapes and add some detail. After that I traced each frame on to a piece of fabric, which Bonney embroidered. We photographed each frame and the animation was born!
LoopDeLoop is a bi-monthly animation competition in which animators from around the world create short loops around a theme - this month's theme was Pig.
